We are Impact Conscious
Sustainability is more than a buzzword; it’s a cornerstone of our operations.
Recognising the urgent need for climate action, we launched our Sustainability Strategy last year. This initiative aligns our operations with four key UN Sustainable Development Goals:
- 13: Climate Action
- 14: Life Below Water
- 15: Life on Land
- 17: Partnerships for the Goals
We aim to adopt an educator role, equipping our members with the relevant knowledge and tools to improve our environmental impact together.
From reducing water usage to optimising energy consumption. Our collective vision is to establish core sustainable credentials that all NLG members adhere to, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Future Planning for Long-Term Impact
We know that meaningful change requires a solid foundation.
That’s why we’ve partnered with a Sustainability Advisor to map out our current impact and define our future goals. This collaboration allows us to identify key areas for improvement and set realistic, measurable targets.
In the short term, we’re rolling out initiatives that focus on immediate impact reduction, such as adopting energy-efficient machinery and expanding our participation in the Infinite Textiles program, which recycles and repurposes end-of-life linen.
Looking further ahead, our ambition is to transform NLG into a model of sustainable excellence, not just for our members but for the entire industry. By consistently demonstrating best-in-class initiatives, we aim to inspire other businesses to follow suit.
technological innovation
Our laundries invest heavily in technology to reduce the usage of utilities driven by participation in the Government sponsored Climate Change Agreement. This agreement sets targets and monitors the utility costs of processing 1KG of items.
The initiative commenced in 2010 and we have achieved an overall reduction in excess of 25%. This scheme is due to finish in 2030 but is likely to be extended or replaced by an alternative process.
By pursuing innovation and prioritising eco-friendly detergents and energy-saving practices, we’re setting a benchmark for sustainable operations in the laundry industry.
